How much will this surgery cost?
Surgical Care Specialists (SCS) is a mobile veterinary surgery service that works within your local veterinarian’s office. We provide an invoice to your veterinarian for the cost of the surgical procedure and supplies. Your veterinarian then adds in the charges associated with anesthesia, pain control medication, intravenous fluids, antibiotics, hospitalization, etc. Your veterinarian will give you a complete estimate for the surgical procedure in advance. Total charges may vary between veterinary clinics due to differences in each location’s fee schedule.
When should I stop feeding my pet prior to surgery?
Generally, you should not feed your pet after midnight on the night before surgery. It’s also best to have your pet avoid drinking water the morning of surgery. If your pet has any medical conditions, such as diabetes, check with your veterinarian regarding food and water prior to surgery.
Should I continue to administer medications around the time of surgery?
Medications prescribed by your veterinarian may be given, although some medications should not be taken on an empty stomach. Check with your veterinarian if you’re unsure about whether to continue to give medications. Do not give any medications without your veterinarian’s consent, as many human medications can harm animals.
How do I prepare my home for my pet’s return?
Make sure you have an area of your home set aside to allow your pet to rest comfortably, separated from small children or other animals. Flooring with good traction is important to allow them to stand and move around without slipping. Plan in advance the best method for getting your pet in and out of the house to urinate and defecate (or enable easy access to the litter box.) Stairs are often unavoidable, but should be minimized, if possible.
